thoughts on current taiko
washed & bored of taiko pp system (rip ppv2 never to be outdone so far).
Nothing against the pp devs except morth1, fuck that guy. I'm aware it's a volunteer position as well leading to it being a generally low priority for said devs.
Anyway, the significantly more difficult technical maps to DT, such as Argentum Pluviam, Bostonian life, Light it up, Trinity homerun, Feelin sky , PLANET//SHAPER, and Inverse World to name a few, are left completely worthless.
Meanwhile, objectively easier tech maps with lower note density & less challenging snaps/colorings, like Irrelevant -Both sides-, Morning Arch (tamame remix), Stella-rium (Asterisk MAKINA Remix), MariannE, and S.A.T.O.R.A.R.E are generally worth around the same, or even more as these, especially as they are way more diffspike reliant and much easier to high acc. One showcase of this is my scores on blue clapper & Triangler. Blue clapper is significantly more consistent in its difficulty and just more dense overall, a much harder map than triangler which is just 1/4th with a diffspike in the middle somewhere. However, triangler manages to be worth more in both pp and star rating somehow, with blue clappers extra notecount helping it match values.
What's worse, simplistic 1/4th only stream maps such as Tenkai e no Kippu, Aletheia, Yomi Yori, override, and song about love easily surpass hard tech in pp the majority of the time.
It gets even worse as the length bonus gets added onto the easy maps, causing something like Fallen symphony to be a 1,000pp nearly 10* for no reason whatsoever, or The silent life to be significantly over 1k pp value while just being the same stream map as every other stream map + one diffspike. This also allows maps with extremely high object counts & low difficulty barring the spikes to be absolutely free pp, DigitalOffline0011 being the best example of this uncommon scenario, awarding 1k for well below a 50miss 95 acc score. Despite the length, this is the equivalent of having a 7* with a couple mid 8* streams you don’t even need to hit as a 1k.
In conclusion, this creates a very jarring experience when it comes to pp and sr in general
