I try to rewrite this every time I have a massive surge in skill. It's a sort of log of my mindsets and the things I was doing during these time periods. How I need to approach the game to do well may not be how you should, so take everything with a grain of salt.

1. Only play when you think it'll be fun and you want to. If you're not enjoying your time or end up getting frustrated, log off. A lack of fun is the surest way to stunt growth.

1. Find maps that you'd be proud to put a score on. If you're not going to screenshot the peak score you think you can get and send it to everyone you know and their moms then it's not the right grind for you. Keep looking.

1. No, seriously. From the start of your session to the end of it, play only maps that you want to set cool scores on. There is no such thing as warming up so stop wasting your life in four stars.

1. Legit, if you think warming up is a thing then you're not playing often enough. Play more dood. Not longer, but more sessions per day. Quit more often to play more often and you'll understand. Kind of a 'take lots of breaks' tip.

1. Please don't grind for performance points. Don't grind anything that isn't fun & making you better.

I play offline a lot nowadays. It helps me to play for fun & improvement. osu! is a mindgame and that's just how I deal with the mental aspect.
